Tips for Finding Cheap Flights to Madrid?

[Flightforus]

I'm currently planning a trip to Spain and looking for advice on getting the best deal on flights to Madrid. With so many airlines and booking platforms out there, prices seem to vary quite a bit.
For those of you who travel to Europe frequently, what are your go-to strategies for finding cheap flights to Madrid? Here are a few details about my setup and questions I have:

• Airport & Route Options: Madrid-Barajas (MAD) is a huge hub, especially for Iberia and budget carriers like Ryanair and Vueling. Is it better to book directly with full-service airlines, or do you find better rates booking multi-city legs on budget lines?
• Best Time to Fly: What time of year or days of the week have you noticed the lowest fares? I'm flexible on travel dates and open to shoulder season.
• Booking Tools & Alerts: Are there specific fare tracking tools or aggregator sites you rely on to catch price drops early?

Key Factors I'm Keeping in Mind

• Baggage Restrictions: Low-cost carriers often charge high fees for carry-ons or checked luggage, which can render a "cheap" ticket surprisingly expensive.
• Layover vs. Direct: Non-stop options save time, but adding a short layover in another European hub often slashes the base fare significantly.
• Airport Transit: Reaching central Madrid from the airport seems simple via Metro Line 8 or the airport express bus, so transit costs after landing aren't a concern.
